The sudden death of the Colombian regional music star has shaken Latin music fans and drawn inevitable comparisons to past aviation tragedies, including the loss of Jenni Rivera.
Latin regional music is mourning another devastating loss. Yeison Jiménez, one of the most influential voices in Colombian popular music, has died at the age of 34 after a small plane crash in a rural area of Boyacá, Colombia. Five other people traveling with him, all members of his close team, also lost their lives.
According to official reports, the aircraft caught fire midair before crashing near the town of Paipa. Colombia’s Civil Aviation Authority confirmed the identities of the victims after the emergency locator signal was activated, allowing rescue teams to reach the site.
Colombian president Gustavo Petro publicly acknowledged the tragedy, confirming that all six occupants died in the accident. Emergency responders and national police found the aircraft completely burned. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash.
Alongside the singer, the victims included the pilot, Captain Hernando Torres, and passengers Juan Manuel Rodríguez, Óscar Marín (Jiménez’s assistant), Jéfferson Osorio (his manager), and Weisman Mora, all part of his professional and personal circle.
