The colorful world of Bikini Bottom arrived in Cancun with Medusa Fest 2026, a three-day celebration inspired by SpongeBob SquarePants taking place from June 26 to 28 at Grand Outlet Riviera Maya.
One of the festival’s most anticipated moments was a special autograph session with Gregg Schigiel, an illustrator and writer known for his work on the official SpongeBob comic series. Fans and collectors had the opportunity to meet the artist, have their comics signed and purchase original sketches and artwork.
During the signing event, Avani Cancun organized a creative activity for attendees. Visitors received a postcard where they could draw SpongeBob or another Bikini Bottom character before having their artwork signed by Schigiel, turning it into a personalized souvenir from the festival.
The postcards also included a QR code offering a two-for-one breakfast buffet promotion at Avani Cancun. The offer is available on weekends through July 31 and gives visitors another opportunity to explore the hotel’s regional and international dining options.
Medusa Fest continues with workshops, recreational activities and themed experiences designed for families and fans of the animated series. The event has become one of the entertainment options available to travelers and local residents looking for things to do in Cancun this weekend.
Visitors who spend at least MXN 350 at stores inside Grand Outlet Riviera Maya during the festival can also redeem their purchases for SpongeBob-themed gifts. Available items include pencil cases, mugs, sneakers and backpacks, while supplies last and subject to the promotion’s terms.
With interactive activities, collectible artwork and exclusive merchandise, Medusa Fest offers families a different way to enjoy Cancun beyond its beaches while connecting with one of the world’s most recognizable animated characters.
