Caifanes song becomes Mexico fans’ viral warning to England ahead of World Cup clash

“Aquí no es así” has taken over social media as Mexican supporters turn the 1994 rock classic into the unofficial soundtrack of Mexico vs England.

“Aquí no es así”: Convierten canción de Caifanes en advertencia para Inglaterra

England has already received its first warning ahead of Sunday’s World Cup round-of-16 match against Mexico. It did not come from a player or from the pitch, but through the unmistakable guitars of Caifanes.

The Mexican rock band’s song “Aquí no es así” has begun circulating across TikTok, Instagram and other platforms, appearing in edits that combine footage of the England national team and British landmarks with scenes of Mexico’s players, packed stands and celebrations at the Estadio Azteca.

One of the most widely shared videos opens with England accompanied by a line that refers to walking across ancient territories and calling upon forces that will never be understood. The images then switch to Mexico and its supporters, delivering the message suggested by the title: things do not work the same way here.

What does “Aquí no es así” mean?

The song can be interpreted as a defence of territory, identity and cultural roots against someone who arrives with arrogance, convinced they can conquer a place they do not truly understand.

That meaning has given the track new life during the World Cup. Although it was never written about football, its solemn and defiant tone has fitted perfectly into the narrative surrounding England’s visit to Mexico.

Released on June 29, 1994, as part of the album El nervio del volcán, the song has spent more than three decades as one of Caifanes’ most recognisable recordings. Now, Mexican fans have turned it into a symbolic warning: England may arrive with history, stars and confidence, but the Azteca is unfamiliar territory.

From Oasis to Caifanes

The cultural rivalry has also reached the comment sections. While England is closely associated with bands such as Oasis, Mexican users have responded with messages such as “Oasis? Caifanes is better,” turning the build-up into an unexpected clash between British and Mexican rock.

Some supporters are already asking organisers to play “Aquí no es así” inside the stadium before kick-off. Comments calling for the song to be sung at full volume have accompanied many of the viral videos.

The track now joins the memes, chants and online provocations surrounding Mexico vs England. The musical exchanges intensified after Liam Gallagher reportedly predicted a comfortable English victory, prompting responses from Mexican fans and public figures, including Maná frontman Fher Olvera.

When is Mexico vs England?

Mexico and England will meet on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. Cancun time, at the Estadio Azteca, officially operating as Estadio Ciudad de México during the tournament.

“Aquí no es así” lyrics:

Vienes caminando y no sabes tu destino

Vienes caminando, ignorando sagrados ritos
